‘Different player’: Graeme Souness says Antonio Conte has totally transformed 25-year-old Tottenham player
Graeme Souness said Antonio Conte has totally transformed Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison on yesterday.
Richarlison completed a switch to Spurs from Everton over the summer and has got off to a decent start to his career in north London.
The 25-year-old is yet to open his Premier League account for Antonio Conte’s side but did score a memorable brace on his Champions League debut.
The Brazilian suffered a setback in October as he picked up a calf injury, which briefly put his World Cup involvement in doubt.
But the Spurs man returned in time for Qatar and has been in lethal goalscoring form for Brazil. Richarlison has bagged three goals in as many games for Tite’s men and scored a memorable overhead kick of his World Cup debut.
He was amongst the goals again last night as Brazil beat South Korea 4-1 and Souness thinks Conte has completely transformed Richarlison’s game.

Speaking on before Brazil’s emphatic last-16 win, Souness said Richarlison is now play-acting less frequently under Conte.
“I think he’s become a different player under Conte,” he said.
“If you remember him at Everton he was a player who threw himself to the ground for fun, had a name as a diver, and I think Conte has sorted that out.
“He’s more inclined to do the hard yards now, so fair play to Conte I think that’s the demand he puts on players.”
TBR View: Richarlison hasn’t changed
Richarlison is proving to be Brazil’s main goal scoring threat right now and has bagged five goals in his last four appearances for Tite’s side.
But it’s hard to agree with Souness that he has completely changed his game under Conte.
The Spurs man won a penalty for Brazil last night and while there was contact, he certainly made the most of it.
In terms of his work-rate, Richarlison has always been a player who is willing to put in the ‘hard yards’ and displayed this during his time at Everton.
