Dietmar Hamann’s six-word response to Liverpool owner John Henry’s European Super League apology
Liverpool icon Dietmar Hamann has issued a damning six-word response to the apology made by Reds owner John Henry in wake of the Anfield club’s European Super League withdrawal.
The football world was rocked on Sunday night when 12 European clubs – including Liverpool – declared their intention to take part in the breakaway midweek competition.
The Reds were joined by five other Premier League sides – Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
A fierce backlash ensued, with many fans, players and pundits joining the footballing authorities in condemning the plans.
By Tuesday night, all six Premier League clubs had withdrawn from the prospective competition.
On Wednesday morning, Liverpool shared a video of Henry apologising to Reds fans on their Twitter page.
The 71-year-old took sole responsibility for Liverpool’s part in the ESL, and insisted it would never have happened without fans’ support.
Henry’s apology was met with a mixed reaction, and Hamann was not convinced, giving his thoughts in a reply to Anfield Watch.
