Dietmar Hamann picks Premier League team that need reported Liverpool target Kai Havertz

Dietmar Hamann has told Sky Sports’ The Football Show (Monday, 9:30am) that Manchester United have got to consider a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz – claiming that United need him more than Liverpool.

Havertz, 20, has been in stunning form this season and has even improved that form since the return to football following the global health crisis. Netting 15 goals this season, the Germany international has scored five goals in his last four games.

He scored again on Friday evening as Leverkusen earned a 1-0 away win over Freiburg. that Havertz is Jurgen Klopp’s top priority this summer, though he has been linked repeatedly with different Premier League sides.

Liverpool icon Hamann commented on Havertz’s future this summer and while Hamann expects Havertz to leave Leverkusen for a fee in the region of £100million, he believes Manchester United would be a better fit – more so than Liverpool.

“He’s just a very versatile player, he’s technically very gifted – he has that air of arrogance, but not in a cocky way,” Hamann said. “Bayern Munich are keen, but they are likely to remain cautious.

“Top teams in Spain will be keen, and a lot of Premier League clubs will be too. If you look at Manchester United, they need players going forward. Liverpool is a bit different. He improves any team. Before the break, we were talking about £100m.”

TBR’s view – Havertz would be just as ideal for Liverpool

Havertz has shown in his outings since the return of the Bundesliga that he is very versatile, and able to quickly adapt to a new position. Up front, Havertz has scored five league goals in four – though previously he has played out wide.

As well as being able to ply his trade in the 10 role, Havertz is just as effective from the flank or up front. It means Havertz would be able to mirror the roles of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah – as well as Roberto Firmino. He could also offer a plan B.

Yes, Manchester United need a player like Havertz but so do Liverpool.
