Diego Llorente shares his first impression of working under Marcelo Bielsa

Diego Llorente has suggested that it was a shock working under Marcelo Bielsa for the first time, despite speaking to several people about the Leeds United boss before his arrival at Elland Road, .

It has been an interesting season for the centre-back. Injury prevented from making his debut until December. And he was sidelined again after one appearance.

Unfortunately, his next comeback lasted around 10 minutes at Newcastle. But since returning for the 3-0 win over Southampton in February, Llorente has been a stalwart for the Whites.

There have been signs that suggest that Llorente is going to prove an inspired signing for the Premier League side. And ahead of Leeds’s next game, he outlined what the experience of working under Bielsa has been like so far.

“People had spoken to me about him [Bielsa] but until you are actually playing for him you don’t realise just how different he is as a coach,” he said, .

“At first it is a shock but you soon understand that every exercise has a reasoning behind it and can be directly transferred to what you do on the pitch during a game.”

TBR View: Established international being shocked by Bielsa’s methods says it all

It will not surprise Leeds fans to hear a player outline what a culture shock it is when working under Bielsa – even when that player is an established international with plenty of top flight experience.

The Whites moved in a drastically different direction following Bielsa’s appointment. It is still remarkable to recall where they were when he arrived.

Heading down that path saw Leeds get themselves back in the Premier League. And they are on their way to securing a second straight year in the top flight.

The exciting thought for fans comes from the sense the club’s ceiling is still some way off while Bielsa’s around.
