‘Did brilliantly’: Jamie Carragher wowed by £20m Aston Villa ace v Southampton
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher praised Aston Villa ace Tyrone Mings in Friday night’s Premier League victory over Southampton.
The Villans defender delivered an impressive display as Steven Gerrard’s side ran out 1-0 winners over Saints at Villa Park.
In a game of few concrete chances, Villa scored what turned out to be the winner in the 41st minute.

Philippe Coutinho played a corner short before whipping in a cross towards the head of Ollie Watkins.
Gavin Bazunu made a good save but couldn’t stop the ball from bouncing off the bar and into the path of Jacob Ramsey, who fired in on the rebound.
On the hour mark, Mings provided Ramsey with the opportunity to double his and Villa’s tally.
Ashley Young lifted a ball up to the far post and Watkins headed back into the path of the man.
Mings did superbly to cushion the ball into the path of Ramsey, but Southampton’s defence managed to block his left-footed shot.
Carragher liked what he saw from the 29-year-old, telling (16/9, 21:20): “Mings did brilliantly. He cushioned it perfectly.”

‘Didn’t put a foot wrong’
Mings also played a significant role in helping Villa keep their first clean sheet of the season.
He completed 100 percent of his aerial duels (4/4) and 100 percent of his tackles (2/2) against Southampton.
named Mings their man of the match with an 8 out of 10 ratings.
‘Strong, physical and everything you expect Tyrone Mings to be with the defender aggressive both on the deck and in the air,’ they wrote.
‘Didn’t give Southampton a sniff and continued his decent streak of form. Commanding and didn’t put a foot wrong.’
