Did Arsenal pull off the sale of the year when offloading Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United?

When Manchester United completed the multi-million pound signing of Alexis Sanchez in January, many at Arsenal feared the club would struggle to cope with the loss of their best attacking player.

Yet almost a year later, Arsenal appeared to have pulled off one of the best sales of the year, with the Gunners new-look attack scoring goals for fun and Sanchez struggling at Old Trafford.

In his 166 appearances in north London, Sanchez registered a remarkable 80 goals and 45 assists, electrifying the Emirates with his powerful runs, superb acceleration, and brilliant finishes.

While at Arsenal, Sanchez was undoubtedly the Gunners’ most dangerous attacking threat, capable of turning any match on its head with his ingenuity and dynamism in the final third.

But while in Manchester, the Chilean’s form could not be more different.

In 29 matches for the Red Devils, the attacker has scored just four goals and provided seven assists. The 29-year-old has failed to nail down a consistent starting place and his time under Mourinho has been characterized by Sanchez’s sulking body language.

Arsenal currently sit four points and three places above United in the table, with more goals scored and a far superior goal difference, revealing that their sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United was an astute piece of business
