Di Marzio: Conte thinks two Spurs-linked title winners are ‘too old’ for Tottenham

Since Antonio Conte was appointed as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, Spurs have been linked with quite a few Inter Milan players, but none more than Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij.
Italian outlet revealed just as Conte was about to take over the reins at Tottenham that both de Vrij and Brozovic, players he had worked with at Inter, were on top of his wish list.
Conte has now been at the helm for almost a month now and he will know what’s needed at Tottenham. The January transfer window is just a few weeks away and Spurs fans are wondering if either de Vrij or Brozovic would be potential options.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio thinks neither player is a target for Conte for one particular reason.
Di Marzio: Conte thinks de Vrij and Brozovic are too old for Tottenham
Di Marzio sat down for a transfer-related Q&A on yesterday and the journalist, who knows Italian football better than most others, had his say on rumours linking de Vrij and Brozovic to Tottenham.
He said: “I don’t think that these kind of players will leave Inter Milan in January because they want to win the title.
“Brozovic is talking to renew the contract, de Vrij is so important for Simone Inzaghi (Inter Milan manager).
“For Tottenham, Antonio Conte, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy, they want young players – top players, but young players. The philosophy of Tottenham is to get top young players. So, Brozovic and de Vrij are too old for this project.”

TBR View:
Conte admitted after Spurs’ defeat to NS Mura that his side’s level is ‘not so high‘. That needs to be addressed as quickly as possible and the January transfer window is the perfect opportunity.
De Vrij and Brozovic are both incredible players who Conte knows really well. The Italian even won the league title with them just a few months ago, which makes them ideal for his Tottenham side, who are in desperate need of quality players in midfield and at the back.
However, if Tottenham’s aim is to build for the future, targeting young players makes more sense. De Vrij and Brozovic are both 29 already, and although they would add a lot of value to this current Spurs side, they’re not long-term options.
That is probably why Conte, Paratici and Levy aren’t too keen to bring them in next month.
