‘Devastated’, ‘absolutely gutted’: Some Leeds fans react to announcement from Elland Road

A number of Leeds United fans have paid tribute to Whites duo Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez after the club confirmed that both players are leaving Elland Road at the end of the season.

Berardi’s Leeds contract expires at the end of the season, while Hernandez is contracted to the Whites until 2022 but has been linked with a return to his native Spain.

According to the , Hernandez was on the radar of hometown club Castellon in January, but Leeds turned down an offer for him to maintain their squad depth.

Berardi arrived at Leeds in the summer of 2014 from Italian outfit Sampdoria, having been capped once by his native Switzerland, and is the club’s longest serving first-team player.

Meanwhile, Hernandez joined Leeds in the summer of 2016, initially on a six-month loan from Qatari club Al-Arabi, and has gone on to make 174 appearances for the Whites.

Both played a significant role in the Leeds side that earned promotion to the Premier League last year, putting an end to 16 years of hurt.

“The club cannot put into words the gratitude and thanks we share for both players,” Leeds said in a .

“Their loyalty, dedication and enthusiasm both on and off the pitch is unquestionable, they are model professionals and extremely popular in the dressing room.”

Leeds fans reacted to the sad news with a lot of emotion as two players who have written their name in Whites folklore are now set to bring the curtain down on their career at Elland Road.
