‘Deserves that opportunity’: Pundit raves about Rangers-linked £3m striker with ‘predatory instinct’
A player linked with Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers has been tipped for great things by Scottish pundit Steven Thompson, who played for the Ibrox side in the 2000s.
With 28 goals in 33 games for Dundee United across all competitions, plus a debut strike for the Scotland national team, Lawrence Shankland has had quite the season.
The 24-year-old’s efforts have helped the Terrors go 14 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, so it’s little surprise to see him linked with bigger clubs.

The has claimed that Rangers are interested in Shankland as a potential replacement for Ibrox sharpshooters Alfredo Morelos or Jermain Defoe.
Thompson, who played up front for the Light Blues from 2003 to 2006, would be surprised if Dundee United manage to hang on to him in the summer, with a “big break” potentially on the horizon.
“Lawrence was at St Mirren with me and he’s kicked on brilliantly,” the 41-year-old told .
“He’s always had the ability to be a really good finisher and that predatory instinct with both feet and his head.
“I’m delighted for him getting his Scotland caps and his goal record over the last few years is just incredible. I’ll be amazed if Dundee United hang onto him after the summer.
“Whether that’s going to the Old Firm or down south, every player wants that big break. He deserves that opportunity for what he’s done on a consistent basis.”
TBR View:
Shankland has clearly been a cut above in the second tier of Scottish football and has put his side on the brink of a return to the Premiership, not to mention breaking into the Scotland team.
Rangers look set for competition from the likes of Stoke City () and Celtic () for a player reportedly valued in excess of £3million ().
Should the Ibrox side sell Morelos for a decent profit, then they will surely have more than enough to make a worthy bid for a worthy player as they look to rebuild in search of title number 55.
