Derby County’s Harry Wilson is already proving he can be a success at Liverpool
Derby County loan star Harry Wilson appears to slowly be proving he can have a future at Liverpool.
The forward took centre stage at Old Trafford on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United.
With the Rams trailing 1-0 thanks to an early Juan Mata goal, Wilson stepped up to take a second half free-kick.
Despite being 30 yards out, Wilson’s strike arrowed into the top corner, leaving Sergio Romero absolutely no chance.
It was a sublime goal from the 21-year-old – arguably one of the best free-kicks ever seen at Old Trafford since the famous Cristiano Ronaldo strike against Portsmouth in 2008.
It signalled his true arrival at the club from Liverpool, having played a key role against Brentford at the weekend.
Wilson has had to contend with injury since his summer move from Anfield, but he is now setting about showing Jurgen Klopp that he has the quality to make an impact in the first team.
To have made a statement against a Premier League side will certainly have done him no harm.
He will star under Frank Lampard
Wilson has only made four appearances for Derby so far, but he will obviously go on to get regular game time from here on in.
The Wales international appears to be in good hands with Frank Lampard as his manager.
The Chelsea legend has made a good start at Pride Park. The Rams currently sit sixth in the Championship, and are playing some good, fluid football.
As demonstrated against Manchester United, Derby are a solid possession-based side, and this will be crucial for Wilson’s development.
Wilson to succeed at Anfield?
It’s been a bright start from Wilson at Pride Park, but will he be able to make his mark at Anfield next season?
The youngster is currently way down in the pecking order.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are three nailed-on starters, and then there’s the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in support.
Wilson will have his work cut out, believe he can be ‘special’.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a success story he can take inspiration from.
Joe Gomez is also a young player getting the nod consistently from Klopp.
Wilson is at a great club in which to develop from here, and next season there’s every chance the wiry attacker will be mixing it up with the first team.
He would certainly fit right into with the Klopp system.
