Newcastle United was once all about its supporters, made by the people for the people. A club that was open with its own fans, honest and had purpose. How times have changed. Now the club no longer cares what the supporters think, doesn’t even know what the meaning of honesty is and has no purpose whatsoever.
In recent seasons we have seen Mike Ashley put in place a structure at the club which I can only compare to North Korea; where if anyone says something out of line there they are harshly punished. It’s much the same with Newcastle; if you say something they don’t like you’ll receive a ban. That’s what has happened to most of the North East media, in fact the local media can’t even ask Alan Pardew questions during his press conferences. Pardew has even placed a degree of blame on The Newcastle Chronicle for one of the worst runs in Newcastle’s history.
Personally I find it shocking that NUFC ban the local media. If nothing else it goes against free speech. Now don’t worry, I’m not going to go all American on this but the fact is that Newcastle United is turning into a dictatorship. Mike Ashley has become the dictator and Pardew his slave or best mate; either way Mike Ashley has got things exactly the way he wants them. The national media has been very slow or simply uninterested to report on what’s really going on at NUFC. All they and other fans see is a club that finishes where it should finish in the table and therefore can’t understand what Toon fans are complaining about.
There’s not one single problem with Mike Ashley, rather lots of relatively small problems that add up to one huge problem.Th e list of reasons to be anger with Ashley are endless but here are just some of them:
Appointing Kevin Keegan, then not allowing him to buy his own players.
Changing the stadium name.
Appointing Joe Kinnear.
Sacking Chris Hughton.
Not investing when the club finished 5th.
Appointing Joe Kinnear again.
Selling Cabaye and not replacing him
Not making a permanent signing in 18 mouths.
Declaring the club has no interest in winning a trophy or being in Europe.
And there are many more reasons. It’s only when you understand how Mike Ashley works, how he makes decisions at the precise time that fans have gotten over the last blunder can you understand why NUFC fans complain and moan most of the time.
If there’s one thing the Newcastle United faithful wish to see its a bit of ambition to know their club is being the best it can be.
Under Ashley that wish will never come.
