‘Delusional’: Celtic legend takes apart Kennedy’s Rangers claim

Chris Sutton has branded John Kennedy “delusional” after Celtic’s interim manager insisted his side are the best club in the country.

That claim flies in the face of the league table, which shows a 20-point gap between the two sides with four matches remaining.

Steven Gerrard’s men are unbeaten in three derbies this season, winning the first 2-0 at Celtic Park and the second 1-o at Ibrox before drawing 1-1 in the east end last month.

Celtic have performed well for large parts of their last two meetings, but are yet to register a victory against the champions this season.

The two sides come face to face again on Sunday when they contest their Scottish Cup fourth round tie, and Kennedy stirred the pot when, speaking to , he said: “I have full belief in the squad we have here — that on our day we are still the best team in the country.”

Parkhead legend Sutton was unimpressed with those comments, and insisted Celtic fans need to come to terms with Rangers’ domestic dominance.

Speaking on the , he said: “It’s a ridiculous thing to say.

“First of all it’s absolutely not true. Everyone can see that and it’s slightly delusional to say that.

“Whether Celtic fans like it or not, everybody has to sit back and applaud what Steven Gerrard has done at Ibrox this season.

“They have won the league easily. For Celtic, it’s been a woeful, woeful season.

“Just accept it, and that’s what John Kennedy didn’t do.”
