‘Delighted’: Ross Wilson raves about 20-year-old Rangers talent with ‘huge potential’
Glasgow Rangers director of football Ross Wilson has waxed lyrical about Ibrox summer signing Calvin Bassey in a Twitter Q&A for the Rangers Youth Development Company.
The Light Blues signed the versatile 20-year-old – who can play at left-back and centre-back – in June, paying Leicester City £230,000 in compensation.
It proved quite a coup for Rangers as Bassey was not only valued at £3million but also on the radar of West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen, according to the .

The defender has already made for the Gers in all competitions – six in the Premiership and two in the Europa League, both in the qualifiers and group stage.
In Wednesday’s Twitter Q&A, Wilson replied to a fan asking about the process involved in identifying and moving for talented players in England, such as Bassey.
As well as explaining the process, the Gers director had some very kind words for the youngster:
A – I am delighted with Calvin, we all are. He’s such a great lad as well as having huge potential. He loves life at Rangers and we love having him in our group.

A – Steven and I speak every day on all aspects of the football club and players and scouting are clearly one of those aspects. Once we decide to go for a player like Calvin, Steven is integral to deciding and making it happen.

A – We involve all of the coaching staff. It has to work that way, it’s the way I’ve always worked.

Several months ago, Gerrard also spoke very highly of Bassey, telling , as quoted by the : “Calvin is going to surprise a few people.
“We’ve watched him a lot and he’s a fantastic talent. He’s big, strong, quick and aggressive. He’s excellent in one v one situations.
“Calvin can play in two or three different positions and always has a smile on his face. He is your modern-day, powerful full-back.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how people take to him. I think when they’ve watched him quite a bit, they’ll be as excited as I am.”
