Dejan Lovren sends Instagram message to Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum

Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum has posted a heartfelt message on Instagram ahead of his pending Anfield departure this summer.

The Dutch midfielder will head to Euro 2020 with Holland in the next few weeks. Before then he could have a new club, however.

Barcelona look to be in pole position to sign him; with Bayern Munich having also been linked with a move for the player.

Wijnaldum has spent five years at Anfield, winning the Premier League and Champions League during an incredible period.

Following his Instagram post, he received some praise from former Reds defender Dejan Lovren.

He was keen to laud his former teammate, posting an emotional message to the 30-year-old midfielder.

Wijnaldum will leave Liverpool as a cult hero and as a player who will prove hard to replace for Jurgen Klopp.

He featured in all 38 Premier League games during 2020/21 and he’s been integral during his time on Merseyside.

Wijnaldum has played 237 times for Liverpool, scoring 22 goals and claiming 16 assists.

He arrived from Newcastle following the Magpies’ relegation with a modest 11 goals from 40 appearances to his name.

The signing has proved inspired though and he’s been an integral part of Klopp’s team for the best part of five years.

Wijnaldum provides Liverpool conundrum

Replacing such an important cog in the Liverpool team won’t be easy and throws up a challenge for Klopp this summer.

Wijnaldum’s energy and ability to cover lots of ground makes him hugely important to the way Klopp likes his team to play.

Being in the Champions League provides Liverpool with considerable pull in the transfer market once again.

Other positions might be targeted during the summer; although, it’s fair to say a midfielder looks like being a priority.

Curtis Jones could become a long-term replacement for the 73-cap Holland international. The youngster is still pretty raw though and perhaps isn’t quite ready for a regular role.

As a result, Klopp has to sign a replacement for Wijnaldum during the summer transfer window.
