Dejan Lovren and Lucas Leiva react as player confirms Liverpool exit
Marko Grujic has completed a permanent move to FC Porto from Liverpool, having spent last season on loan with the Portuguese outfit. The Reds announced a deal on their website on Tuesday afternoon. Now, Grujic has posted on Instagram after his Liverpool exit, and both Dejan Lovren and Lucas Leiva have recated.
Grujic, 25, has pretty much been on loan ever since joining Liverpool in January 2016. He has been on loan five times since, to Red Star, Cardiff City, Hertha Berlin on two season-long deals and then Porto in 2020-21. Now, Porto have decided to pay £10.5million ( to get their man.
It sees the Serbia international leave Liverpool having only ever played 16 senior matches for the Reds – scoring one goal. Grujic firstly posted a farewell message to Liverpool supporters, before sending a message to the Porto fans. They of course know him well, after 39 outings last term.
Lovren, Lucas, Rhian Brewster and many more react as Grujic leaves Liverpool
It was always going to be tricky for Grujic to break into Liverpool’s side. The Reds added Thiago to their midfield options last term, while Jurgen Klopp has also brought through Curtis Jones. The German gaffer continues to stick by injury-plagued Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – and inconsistent Naby Keita.
Going out on loan all over Europe was not going to regularly catch the eye of onlooking Liverpool fans. Ultimately, a permanent exit was inevitable and it was about how well he performed on loan – and therefore, how much Liverpool could ask for his signature. Plenty responded to his posts.
Lovren’s message is translated as “Bravo brother, keep going”. Lucas also wished Grujic luck, as did Brewster and plenty of others.
