Deja Vu for Leeds youngster Robbie Gotts after loan exit
Robbie Gotts looked to be one of the players set to benefit most from Leeds United’s change of stance regarding loaning out young players this past summer.
In the past, the Whites have tended to hold onto their best academy prospects. No player loaned out during Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure has gone on to make an appearance for the first-team following their returns.

So there had been a time when being loaned out looked to be an ominous sign. However, the stance looks to have changed following Leeds’s promotion to the Premier League.
The likes of Mateusz Bogusz and Alfie McCalmont look destined for bright futures. But they are amongst those given the green light to continue their development elsewhere for this season.
Gotts is arguably the youngster who appears to stand the best chance of returning from his loan and finding himself straight in Bielsa’s plans.
The 20-year-old has been named in a large number of Leeds first-team squads over the last couple of years. And he was given a chance to make his senior debut in January’s FA Cup tie at Arsenal.

He looks to be best-equipped to move into the fold upon his return from loan. But Gotts was perhaps also the youngster who looked set to benefit most from the club’s change of approach to loan deals.
Gotts’s switch to Lincoln could offer the versatile midfielder a real opportunity to take his game to the next level.
The depth Leeds now boast means that impressing in under-23 football perhaps does not take a young player as far in the pecking order as it would previously.
Gotts’s loan yet to catch fire
So a loan with Lincoln could potentially provide a fantastic platform. Unfortunately, Gotts’s start to life at Sincil Bank appears to prompt a frustrating sense of deja vu.
Bielsa previously admitted – – that he felt guilty that he had not offered Gotts more game-time.
In fact, Gotts would sit on the bench 35 times before he featured at the Emirates. He would only feature once more before the campaign concluded.
And at Lincoln, he has now been an unused substitute on five occasions since moving last month.
He is yet to make his debut for the Imps.
Of course, there is plenty of time for Gotts to force his way into the fold. And there is every reason to believe that he will still prove to be an inspired signing for Lincoln.
But having been an unused substitute for Leeds on so many occasions during his brief career, it may be concerning for him that he is having to bide his time once again.
