Defoe urges Tottenham to sign defender, and he is the ideal signing – TBR View
Jermain Defoe recently claimed that he would love to see Tottenham Hotspur sign one of his former teammates in Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake – and he would be the ideal signing this summer for numerous reasons.
Clearly a fan of Tottenham following two spells at the club earlier on his career, now-Rangers striker Defoe was asked about Ake and where the Netherlands international’s future lies on
Veteran Defoe, 37, believes he would be a good signing for Tottenham – with Bournemouth edging closer to relegation and likely to sell a number of their best players, as is the way with dropping to the Championship.
“I would love to see him at Tottenham,” . “So much potential. He’s technically good, Dutch players are. Scores goals from set-pieces, brave. I would love to see him get to the next level and play in the Champions League.”

Ake would be a good signing for most Premier League sides. But for Tottenham, he would be the ideal addition to Jose Mourinho’s squad this summer for a number of different reasons – the first, being Jan Vertonghen.
Spurs need a reliable, loyal centre-back that can replace the versatility and defensive nous of Vertonghen. Both left-footed players and able to offer cover at left-back – Ake is a younger version of Vertonghen.
Not only that, but Ake adds pace to a defence that includes an ageing Toby Alderweireld and a powerful – but slow – Eric Dier. Alongside Alderweireld, the duo can compliment eachother’s weaknesses.
Finally, his price tag. Yes, Ake was worth a whopping £75million () last summer when Leicester came calling to replace Harry Maguire. But if Bournemouth are relegated, that price will surely drop.
So, for those reasons, Defoe is bang on. Ake is the ideal signing for Spurs this summer.
