‘Definitely’… Tam McManus now tells Celtic how many players they need to buy in January

The possibility of Celtic losing Kyogo Furuhashi, Hyoengyu Oh and Daizen Maeda to the Asian Cup takes one step closer this week.

With each passing game, Brendan Rodgers must look to solve an issue that could see him lose at least three key players for crucial fixtures in January.

The Celtic manager will undoubtedly have told his recruitment department to get to work and, hopefully, there are targets already lined up for when the transfer window swing open in January.

But just how many players will Celtic need? On the evidence of their performances over the last couple of weeks, it could be many but Tam McManus has offered a number he believes is realistic for the Celtic manager to achieve.

McManus said [], “I think he definitely needs one but he might need two. If those three go he definitely needs two.

“I think that they’d be very light up front with some big games over that period.

“I still think Celtic need to go into the market and get another one because Kyogo, Oh and another would be would be the three for me.”

The fixtures Celtic trio Kyogo, Oh and Maeda could miss because of the Asia Cup

Depending on how far Japan and South Korea go in the tournament, Rodgers could potentially be without Kyogo, Maeda and Oh right up until when the final is held on the 10th of February.

With the tournament starting on the 12th of January, the Celtic trio will definitely miss important games against Buckie Thistle (21st January) and Ross County (27th January).

Should either Japan or South Korea (or both) make it to the final of the tournament Rodgers could see himself trying to negotiate fixtures against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on the 3rd of February and Hibs at Easter Road on the 10th.

It’s unlikely but the Celtic manager will need to plan accordingly if he wants to avoid losing any more ground in the title race after yesterday’s defeat at Kilmarnock.
