‘Definitely’: 27-year-old Rangers man tipped for future Ibrox captaincy, ‘so much going for him’

Glasgow Rangers defender Connor Goldson has been described as essential to Steven Gerrard and tipped to become a future Ibrox captain.

The 27-year-old joined the Gers in July 2018 for a reported fee, becoming Gerrard’s that summer.

Goldson has made competitive Rangers appearances to date, including this season, playing the full 90 minutes and beyond in each of those.

The Englishman has led the defence to great effect over the first three months of the campaign and, save for his display away at Benfica, has been impeccable on the pitch.

Former Brighton teammate and retired Scotland international Gordon Greer thinks Goldson, who finished the Falkirk game with the armband, will wear it permanently in future.

“He’s always had so much going for him,” Greer told the . “He’s a big boy and he can defend. He can pick out a pass too.

“He wants to work hard and learn. When you feel confident in yourself you are more willing be vocal on the park. That has shone through this season with Connor.

“I can definitely see him as a future Rangers captain. He’s in a good place and he’s prepared to voice his opinions. He’s a player the manager really depends upon now.

“He always had these characteristics, they are just coming to the fore now. His consistency levels are excellent.”

Rangers are absolutely flying in all competitions at the minute and, save for hiccups against Benfica, are looking good for potential silverware on several fronts.

Goldson is certainly essential to Gerrard’s plans – playing every minute of every Gers game so far this season is testament to that, not to mention incredible stamina.

He’s superb on and off the pitch and, as Greer says, he’s a perfect shout to take over the captaincy in future.
