Defender Jan Vertonghen wants extended Tottenham stay
Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen would prefer to sign an extended contract at the club and that should be music to the ears of fans.
, the Belgium international will see his current deal with the North London club expire in 2019.
It is understood that Spurs have the option to extend the 31-year-old’s contract by a further year.
But the report details that the ball-playing centre-back would prefer a longer extension than just 12 months, as he looks to commit his future to them.
Vertonghen is a key defender in Mauricio Pochettino’s side and having him tied down to a long deal would be an extremely smart move for the club, especially when teammate Toby Alderweireld is expected to leave at the end of the season.

Vertonghen is currently sidelined through injury, but has become an ever-present in recent years under Pochettino and been a highly consistent performer.
The left-footed ace has proven he is a no-nonsense defender that is commanding at the back and also good with the ball of the feet, while he’s helped teammate Davinson Sanchez get to grips with English football too.
He is in the prime years of his career right now and could still have many more seasons at the top level with Spurs if he stays on top of his fitness.
