Declan Rice reacts as £20m player confirms he’s leaving Arsenal now in shock departure
Arsenal have announced that Takehiro Tomiyasu will be leaving the club this summer, with his contract being terminated by mutual agreement.
Tomiyasu, who made 84 appearances for Arsenal after signing from Bologna in 2021, still had a year left on his contract, with a further year’s option.
However, with Tomiyasu continuing to recover from a long-term knee injury, the decision has been made for him to start a new chapter elsewhere.
“Unfortunately, injuries have limited Tomi’s time on the pitch in the past two seasons, with the defender making just one substitute appearance last season,” Arsenal wrote in a statement.
“It was therefore mutually agreed to end Tomi’s contract in order for him to start a new chapter in his career.”
Tomiyasu has now taken to Instagram with a message for the club and their fans, which led to plenty of replies from his peers and supporters.

Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber among Arsenal stars to wish Takehiro Tomiyasu well
Takehiro Tomiyasu shared a post on Instagram with photos of himself in Arsenal kit and the in-picture caption “thank you, Arsenal”.
The £20million man also wrote a lengthy message in which he thanked the club, the fans, his teammates and his coaches.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was among those who wished him well in the replies, writing: “Good luck Tomi”. He also included a red heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber posted a red heart emoji and an applause emoji.
Whether Arsenal could now replace Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu’s departure means the Gunners free up a space in their squad, and it remains to be seen whether they will bring someone in as a replacement.
However, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Arsenal are not in any rush to sign someone else at right-back.
The Gunners are understood to be happy with the strength in depth in that position, given Timber and Ben White are both fit now.
Arsenal certainly have bigger fish to fry in the transfer market, with new forwards very much the top priority.
Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream target, but Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been the two attackers most strongly linked to Arsenal as of late.
As well as signing a new striker, Arsenal are also in the market for a high-quality winger.
Arsenal are said to be pushing for Noni Madueke of Chelsea, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has also been linked with Arsenal.
