‘Decent chance’: Gerrard suggests 27-year-old Aston Villa player may well be in his squad to face Nottingham Forest

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that defender Calum Chambers has a ‘’ of being in the squad against Nottingham Forest.

One player he was asked about was Chambers, who hasn’t featured since the end of August.

Chambers has spent much of the season as an unused substitute in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old was unavailable for Villa’s trip to Leeds

Villa have faced a shortage of defenders this season, with several first-choice players picking up injuries.

Matty Cash is back available after picking up a tendon issue against Manchester City.

Marquee signing Diego Carlos suffered a serious injury two games into his Aston Villa career.

Chambers can cover a multitude of defensive roles, and his availability will be a boost to Gerrard.

Chambers has ‘decent chance’ of being in squad vs Forest

“Calum Chambers took part in half of the session today (Thursday), and he’ll continue to pick training up from now until Monday.

“He’s got a decent chance of being involved as well (against Nottingham Forest).”

Villa will be looking to inflict more pain on a struggling Nottingham Forest side.

Gerrard’s side could theoretically fall back into the relegation zone by the time they face Steve Cooper’s team on Monday.

Forest are rooted to the bottom of the table after five straight defeats.

Club legend Stuart Pearce has backed Cooper to be given more time, but he’s under massive pressure.

Gerrard will be hoping his Villa team can take advantage of their struggling opponents.

The former Rangers boss still has a few days to monitor the fitness of his squad.

Chambers will be hoping he’s given a chance to play his way back into the team on Monday.
