Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has delivered an update on Morgan Sanson after the Frenchman hobbled off the pitch with an injury against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Villans signed Sanson from Olympique Marseille for £16 million in January. () He started just three times for Villa last season before suffering an injury that ruled him out of action until the start of this week.

The Frenchman was handed a start by Smith against Chelsea and he looked good. However, he suffered a hamstring injury just a few minutes before half-time and he’ll sadly miss a few more weeks of action as a result.

Smith: Morgan Sanson is full of life despite his injury

The Aston Villa boss said, as per : “When he arrived at the club we were doing well so it was always going to be tough. Then he had a knee injury. When you miss pre-season it is difficult and he has had to work extremely hard.

“It got to a stage where we got him back in the team on Wednesday and he was playing really well against some very good opponents. It is frustrating for him that he felt a twinge in his hamstring and he was frustrated straight away.

“But, I saw him on Thursday morning and he was back full of life again, realising it is not a substantial injury and just a twinge. Hopefully, he will be back soon.”

Injuries have been cruel on Villa

Sanson’s injury on Wednesday is not the only concern for Villa. Leon Bailey has been ruled out for a few weeks as well, while the likes of Trezeguet and Keinan Davis have been missing for a while.

Matt Target is a doubt for the game against Manchester United this afternoon due to an abductor injury, while Axel Tuanzebe cannot play against his parent club.

Smith still has plenty of options across the pitch and Villa are more than capable of getting something from the game. However, Bailey, Trezeguet and Sanson’s availability would’ve certainly made them a lot stronger.
