Dean Smith reacts to Aston Villa signing midfielder Morgan Sanson
Dean Smith has claimed that new signing Morgan Sanson can play in “any midfield position” after he joined Aston Villa on Tuesday.
The Midlands giants confirmed that the 26-year-old has moved to Villa Park on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Sanson has left French football for the first time in his career to test himself in the Premier League.
He arrives as a highly-rated midfielder with Champions League experience, including six appearances in this season’s group stages with Marseille.
The French central midfielder leaves Marseille with 25 goals and 22 assists in 157 appearances for them.
“Morgan has performed consistently at the highest level in French football for a number of seasons as well as in this season’s Champions League, and is a player with the quality and experience to play in any midfield position,”
“He will add real competition for starting places and gives us more squad depth which is vital to competing successfully in the Premier League.”

TBR’s View:
For Villa, the signing of Sanson is yet another indication that they are a club heading in the right direction.
They are certainly in the mix for the European spots this season after a brilliant summer of spending and Sanson looks another astute piece of business, especially at the quoted £14million () price tag.
Smith alluded to the fact that he can play numerous midfield positions, as he’s shown he can dictate play from deep or more into more advanced roles to help attack.
Villa have a strong group of players in the centre of the park vying for positions and Sanson would help increase competition.
