Dean Smith labels Tottenham player outstanding after Aston Villa loss
Dean Smith that he thought that Son Heung-min was the difference between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa on Sunday, as he labelled the forward’s performance outstanding.
Spurs got back to winning ways after a dreadful run of form. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men beat Villa 2-1 in North London.
It was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who scored the opener. And Matt Targett’s own goal proved to be decisive after Ollie Watkins had equalised for the visitors.
But the common denominator in both of Tottenham’s goals was Son. The South Korean set up both with a performance that certainly reminded everyone of how good he can be.
And Smith outlined after the game just how crucial Son’s impact was as Villa left Tottenham Hotspur Stadium empty-handed.
: “I didn’t think there was an awful lot between the two teams.
“I think the difference was they had the outstanding player on the pitch, which was Son today. I thought he was outstanding.”

The icing on the cake for Tottenham would have surely been Harry Kane ending his wait for a Premier League goal this season.
He came close on a couple of occasions. And he looked a lot more like his old self in front of goal, even attempting an audacious hit from 45 yards during the first-half.
But while Spurs wait for Kane to get up to full speed, Son’s form is going to be crucial.
He is the one player who can rival Kane for being Tottenham’s talisman. And he has scored three times in the top-flight this season.
As Smith suggests, the 29-year-old inspired Sunday’s victory with two moments of real quality.
