Dean Saunders has very high hopes for Liverpool’s Naby Keita

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders reckons Naby Keita can become one of the best players in the Premier League.

The club forked out £52.75 million to sign him from RB Leipzig (), but he is yet to fully justify that fee.

Keita struggled at first, but started to settle in early 2019 with Jurgen Klopp handing him more starting opportunities.

His progress was halted towards the end thanks to injury, resulting in a somewhat average first campaign for the Guinea international.

Big things are expected of Keita in his second season, and Saunders believes he has the tools to shine for the Reds.

: “Keita looked to me as if he could be one of the best players in the league at some point in the future.

“He’s had a few injuries, showed flashes of brilliance, but I’m hoping this season that he can kick on now.”

TBR’s view

Keita has a way to go to become one of the Premier League’s best players, but arguably he does have the tools.

The star is technically gifted and very athletic, two traits that set him apart from a lot of players – in the same way they do for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

If he can stay fit then there is every chance – playing in Liverpool’s team and under Jurgen Klopp then he will surely flourish.

At times last term Keita seemed a little overawed. He should now have completely settled in at Anfield and could genuinely become a force in the Reds’ midfield.
