‘Deal completed’: Romano claims Newcastle have just made an ‘outstanding’ signing

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Newcastle United have just secured Nick Pope’s signature.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with the Burnley and England goalkeeper in recent days.

Now, Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that the 30-year-old has signed his Newcastle contract.

According to the , the Magpies will pay £12million for Pope, who has reportedly penned a four-year deal.

The Clarets man’s arrival comes just days after Freddie Woodman sealed a move to Preston North End.

Newcastle have done very well to land Pope.

He is a talented and experienced keeper who will provide superb competition for Martin Dubravka.

Pope kept clean sheets in the Premier League last season, in 2020-21 and a staggering shutouts in 2019-20.

In July 2020, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp waxed lyrical about the keeper after a 1-1 draw between the two sides.

“Nick Pope was obviously warmed up,” he said, as quoted by .

“We warmed him up through the game and he was properly warm and had some really sensational saves.”

Meanwhile, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard said Pope was “outstanding” in the penultimate game of the season.

Newcastle haven’t wasted any time in bolstering their ranks in pursuit of kicking on from last season.
