Davinson Sanchez returns to form with brilliant performance against Poland
🍌Tottenham’s club-record signing Davinson Sanchez put fans on edge after his nervy World Cup debut against Japan, as his performance largely contributed to Colombia’s 2-1 defeat on the day. However, the 22-year-old well and truly redeemed himself against Poland on Sunday evening.
🅺Sanchez was given the tricky task of shackling one of Europe’s finest strikers in Robert Lewandowski, who boasted 29 goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances last term and, given his previous performance, the majority of the Spurs faithful were not too confident the defender would come out on top.
🧸However, it became obvious early on that Sanchez was back to his best, as he consistently stifled the Bayern Munich superstar, using sheer endeavour and his incredible pace to stop Lewandowski having any real joy in David Ospina’s goal-mouth.

ꦫPartnered alongside Barcelona’s Yerry Mina – who scored the opener – Sanchez put in a dominant display on the biggest stage of all, making more clearances than any other player with six. And Tottenham fans can relax knowing the man they saw last season is well and truly back.
๊Colombia now face Senegal in their upcoming game and will hope to progress to the round of 16 clash, where a meeting with club teammate Harry Kane and England is a real possibility.
