David Seaman thinks ‘top quality’ Arsenal player should be disappointed

Arsenal legend David Seaman had told that he expects Aaron Ramsdale to keep the number one spot for the foreseeable ahead of Bernd Leno.

The goalkeeper was in fine form on Sunday as the Gunners defeated Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The 23-year-old made an outrageous save from Lucas Moura in the closing stages and was unfortunate not to keep a clean sheet.

Ramsdale cost Arsenal £30 million from Sheffield United in the summer.

It was anticipated that he’d be the understudy to Bernd Leno but it took just two games for the youngster to wrestle the gloves from the German.

Now, Seaman expects the England talent to continue in the team.

He told Stadium Astro: “If I was Leno I would be disappointed as he hasn’t done a lot wrong.

“Now, Ramsdale has been given his chance and he will keep the gloves until something bad happens.

“For me, it’s healthy competition between the goalkeepers. Aaron knows if he’s not up to scratch Leno will come straight back in.

“It’s always good to have two top quality goalkeepers.

“We’ve only seen Ramsdale a few times now and for me, he’s a confident lad and he’s better with his feet. He passed the test at Burnley with flying colours.”

Latest blow could be the end of Leno at Arsenal

With no European football on the horizon, Mikel Arteta doesn’t have many chances to shuffle his pack this season.

The Gunners are still in the Carabao Cup, however, and that will give Leno a chance to play.

It might not be enough though. Leno could have a desire to leave Arsenal and at 29 he will want regular football.

Ramsdale has come in with a point to prove and boy has he done it.

Seaman is right though; Leno hasn’t done a great deal wrong. He was largely handy last season and did pretty well as the club’s number one.

The ball is likely to be in Leno’s court but it would be no surprise to see him seek a move in the near future.
