David Seaman reacts to David Luiz leaving Arsenal

David Seaman that he would view David Luiz as a good signing for Arsenal, insisting that the Brazilian was the best defender the Gunners had when he arrived.

Luiz is set to move on this summer after two years at the Emirates. He has been linked with the likes of PSG and Rennes in recent times.

The 34-year-old had a mixed time in North London. There were a few occasions when the frustrating side of his game came to the fore and he made costly mistakes.

However, he looked to be a real leader in the Gunners’ dressing room. And there have been plenty of times when he has produced some colossal displays.

While Luiz’s future was up in the air, there were reports suggesting that he could stay beyond this summer.

But Luiz is now looking for his next challenge, with . And Seaman suggested that he was disappointed that the centre-back has now gone.

“I’d like to see a strong defender come in,” . “Obviously David has gone now and that for me is going to be a big miss because he’s a very influential player.

“I know a lot of people questioned him and whether it was a good signing, but I felt it was because when he signed he was better than anything that we had.”

Mikel Arteta is not short of options in defence, even with David Luiz moving on.

But what he does appear to lack is an obvious leader amongst those centre-backs.

Rob Holding has worn the armband in the past. Meanwhile, Pablo Mari is approaching 300 career appearances.

The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba look to have incredible futures ahead.

But surely Arsenal would benefit from having a more experienced defender in the ranks to help fill the void Luiz has left.
