David Raya says Arsenal have made a ‘very good’ signing who will be ‘top player’ for Mikel Arteta

David Raya has backed a new Arsenal signing to become a top player for the club.

After coming up short in the title race again in 2024/25, the Gunners have been recruiting heavily in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Arsenal are close to signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, with a fee of around £64m mooted.

The former Coventry City attacker will become Mikel Arteta’s sixth signing of the summer.

Gyokeres could debut against Tottenham Hotspur, while another star already at the club has been earning high praise from David Raya.

David Raya backs Cristhian Mosquera for Arsenal success

Arsenal have been sent a Cristhian Mosquera warning by a Valencia source after his transfer was confirmed this week.

It’s thought that the 21-year-old will need to work on his decision-making after swapping Spain for the Emirates.

Another potential problem named is Mosquera’s ability to defend set pieces, but goalkeeper Raya has now given his thoughts on the signing.

The Spaniard did mention the inexperience of his fellow countryman, but also backed the ‘very good’ Mosquera to become a ‘top player’, as per .

He said: “He is a young lad, quite experienced for a 21-year-old. So he finds very good players on the ball, he is very good defensively especially with the balls in the air. He has a lot to develop obviously because he is a young player as well but he will be a top player for us.”

“He is doing all right. He is integrating with the group. He has not been here for long so it will take him time.

“He needs to learn English as well but the Spanish group that we have will help him as much as possible and I know the whole group will help him as well.”

What next for Arsenal after Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres

With Mosquera signed and Gyokeres’ deal expected to be made official in the near future, Arteta and Co. are still planning further reinforcements this summer.

Arsenal have been in talks with Eberechi Eze’s camp over a potential transfer from Crystal Palace.

The Gunners like Xavi Simons, but Premier League rivals Chelsea are interested in him as well.

On that front, it has been reported recently that Eze is higher on Arsenal’s list than Simons, who remains in contact with Chelsea over a move.
