David Prutton praises Leeds new-boy Eddie Nketiah after midweek winning goal
Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton has praised the early impact of Eddie Nketiah at Elland Road after he netted the winner in the midweek 1-0 win over Brentford.
, Prutton said that Arsenal loanee Nketiah could fire Leeds to automatic promotion if he keeps his form up.
He : “Leeds, meanwhile, seem to have picked up a bit of a gem in Eddie Nketiah. If he can keep making the kind of impact he did against Brentford on Wednesday night then they will have a real shot at automatic promotion.”
TBR’s View – Nketiah could be an even more prolific replacement for Kemar Roofe
Losing Kemar Roofe so late in the transfer window would have been a body blow to Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes if Marcelo Bielsa had not been able to secure a suitable replacement.
Throwing a young lad like Nketiah into such a pressure situation is a risk but Bielsa has always had unswerving faith in youngsters – and the Arsenal loanee is a born goalscorer.
He could have done a job as a backup in the Premier League, but the pressure of leading Leeds’ promotion charge is another matter.
That said, Roofe could not be relied on in terms of fitness, and did not sniff out poacher’s goals like Nketiah, so the young man could prove to be an upgrade if he keeps his head under pressure.
