David Prutton looks ahead to Leeds in the play-offs

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton believes that Leeds United have the qualities to cause any team problems in the play-offs and also expects manager Marcelo Bielsa to thrive in the pressure game.

After missing out on automatic promotion, the Whites know that they have to go through the dreaded play-off format if they want to win promotion to the Premier League.

They will finish third in the league table if they avoid defeat away to Ipswich Town on the final day of the season and that would set up a two-legged tie against sixth in a semi-final.

Leeds would face Derby County as it stands in the semi-final, with Aston Villa and West Brom clashing in the other before a final at Wembley.

But Middlesbrough and Bristol City still have the chance to squeeze into the play-offs too on the final day.

Prutton is confident that Bielsa is the type of manager that will relish the play-offs, despite his side narrowly missing out on automatic promotion.

“Leeds are good enough to dominate a game both home and away because of the way that they play,”

“They have played very well on the counter attack away when I have seen them away from Elland Road and I have also seen them hit it on the break at Elland Road like Hull City did to them.

“They have got to trust in the tactical nous of what Bielsa should bring to these games and he feels like the kind of manager that would relish this system of football to get promoted.”

TBR’s View:

Bielsa has made quite the impact at Elland Road during his first year at Leeds, but it will end up being a failure if he can’t get the team over the line for promotion despite all their eye-catching football.

The Argentinian boss now has a mammoth role in lifting his side and installing the confidence in them to go again in the play-offs.

Leeds shouldn’t fear any side in the play-offs and on their day are arguably the strongest team.

They will need to overcome the obstacle of having Patrick Bamford suspended for the first leg of a semi-final, but have Kemar Roofe waiting in reserve ready to impress.
