David Ornstein shares if Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko’s new deal is likely to have release clause

David Ornstein has shared what he understands concerning whether the new contract Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko is set to sign with RB Leipzig will include a release clause.

Benjamin Sesko has handed Arsenal an early blow in the summer transfer window, as it appeared that the 21-year-old was a key target for Mikel Arteta’s men as the Gunners looked to potentially strengthen their striker options over the coming months.

Some of Arsenal’s rivals felt that the Gunners were on pole position to sign Sesko, but the Slovenian has decided to remain at RB Leipzig.

Speaking on , David Ornstein noted that Sesko had been available for just under £55 million due to a release clause in his contract.

Interestingly, Ornstein added that while he does not believe that there will be another release clause in his contract, the door will be left ever so slightly open to a potential exit in the future.

“My information is that it’s unlikely that there will be a release clause in this new deal, at least not a formal mechanism, and that most probably, it will be a gentlemen’s agreement on the sort of range that if offers come in at then both parties will show respect to one another, and the door will be open to him departing if it’s the right time for both parties and the right project for Sesko,” he said.

Arsenal considering striker bid after Sesko setback

The form of Kai Havertz during the second-half of the season definitely took the pressure off of Edu and Mikel Arteta, with the German showing that he can lead the line for potential Premier League title contenders.

His performances ensured that Arsenal do not need to panic buy in this window; seemingly making Sesko a perfect target given that he may have needed some time to settle at the Emirates.

But Arsenal are not just looking at Sesko, with Joshua Zirkzee attracting attention following his fantastic spell with Bologna. Arsenal could look to trigger Zirkzee’s release clause, which is worth £34 million.

The good news for Arsenal is that Sesko’s decision has come so early in the window, so there is plenty of time for the Gunners to move forward and look elsewhere.
