David Ornstein says West Ham are eyeing January signing with Graham Potter having ‘resources available’ to him
Things are already feeling a lot more positive at the London Stadium following West Ham United’s 3-2 win against Fulham, Graham Potter’s first win as the club’s manager.
West Ham started the game without a recognised striker on the pitch, with Lucas Paqueta playing the number nine role for Potter.
Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug will both be unavailable long-term and Jarrod Bowen was also short of fitness for the tie.
Marco Silva actually criticised West Ham after the game, feeling as if Fulham actually deserved to win the game.
But Potter will simply be delighted with three points, a feat Julen Lopetegui was rarely able to achieve.
West Ham determined to sign a striker for Graham Potter
That being said, reliable journalist David Ornstein has now shared an update on West Ham’s transfer plans when reporting for NBC Sports.
Ornstein mentioned the names of both Taiwo Awoniyi and Jhon Duran, two strikers who the club have identified to bring in.

Ornstein said: “There are resources available for West Ham to strengthen, they want to bring in a striker to solve their goalscoring problem with the absence of Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and now Niclas Fullkrug through injury.
“They’ve made an inquiry about Taiwo Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest – that was knocked back because they would want to replace him if they were to let him go.
“They like Duran at Aston Villa but he is going nowhere – he is there to stay.
“So West Ham have a lot of business to do this month to get themselves well away from the relegation battle and to safety.
“A lot of pressure will fall again on Tim Steidten, their sporting director. I think his position is under scrutiny, they hierarchy will be deliberating his recruitment, whether they want to go on with him.
“But he’s there for now and he’ll want to work very closely with Graham Potter in these weeks and months ahead to try and bring the better times back to West Ham.”
Aston Villa refusing to sell Jhon Duran despite West Ham bid
West Ham actually bid for Duran last week, an approach that was quickly refused given that Aston Villa don’t want to sell the striker.
West Ham are looking at several options to bring in up top, an extensive list which demonstrates how important the club consider the signing to be.
Potter can’t operate without a number nine for the majority of the remaining season.
Perhaps some imagined that Mohammed Kudus would be tried in the role against Fulham on Tuesday evening.
But before Potter even arrived, it was shared that West Ham might reluctantly sell Kudus in order to redistribute those funds elsewhere in the squad.
