David Ornstein says Liverpool like winger who’s even faster than Mo Salah
Liverpool may soon need to contemplate life without Mohamed Salah.
Indeed, while, in an ideal world, Salah would stay at Liverpool and grow his legacy at Anfield, the sad reality iꦅs that he’s in his 30s and he will start to decline at some point, while he’s out of contract in the summer, so he could be🍌 on his way out.
If Salah does leave, Liverpool will need some more attacking firepower, and speaking♒ on The Athletic FC Podcast✃, David Ornstein has claimed that Liverpool are admirers of one of La Liga’s brightest talents.
Nico Williams earned huge praise for his performances at Euro 2024, and according to Ornstein, Liverpool, along with a number of other Premier League clu🦄bs, are admirers of the Spaniard.

Liverpool admire Nico Williams
Ornstein named🐼 Liver෴pool among the admirers of Nico Williams.
Liverpool have be🌃en linked with a number of wingers recently.
Takefusa Kubo was recently linked to Liverpool, while Bryan Mbeumo is apparently a Liverpool target too.
“But there is a clause in the case of Williams. He is a fantastic player who has been of interest to P♉remier League clubs for some time now. And he had his heart set on joining Barcelona last summer, which is why the Premier League clubs didn’t get their way,” Ornstein said.
“They didn’t make the move. And fꦛrom convers🌞ations I’ve had, it seems that he might be more open to a move to the Premier League now or in 2025 than he was before. And so that poses the question, will these teams come again?
“Because as you say, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, 🔜they’ve all got admiration for him. So I would keep an eye on him. Impro𒐪bable for January, more likely for the summer, but you never know.”
Nico Williams compared to Mohamed Salah
If Liv༒erpool are looking towards a player like W✤illiams as the potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, they’re in for a bit of a shock.
Indeed, Williams and Salah’s statistics paint a very worrying picture when compared 🀅to one another.
Nico Williams this season | Mohamed Salah this season | |
Games | 14 | 14 |
Goals | 1 | 13 |
Assists | 3 | 8 |
Top speed (km/h) | 35.8 | 34.54 |
As you can see, ⛄Wi♊lliams is nowhere near as clinical or as effective as Salah.
The Athletic Club star is quicker than his Liverpool count🦂erpart, but that’s about it.
The reality is that there aren’t many players in🎃 world football who can operate at the 🌼level Salah does, and while Williams is a talent, he’s not going to be able to fill the boots of Salah, at least not immediately.
Willia🃏ms is certainly an exciting player, and his performances at the Euros show why a team like Liverpool would be interested, but the Reds may waꦺnt to tread carefully here if they’re looking to sign a player of this profile to become their new main attacking threat.
