David Ornstein says £18.5m Tottenham target could join Premier League rivals before the deadline

David Ornstein has suggested that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Adam Wharton could join Crystal Palace before Thursday’s deadline.

Tottenham are one of many Premier League sides to have expressed an interest in signing Adam Wharton.

Spurs have been heavily linked with moves for a host of midfielders ahead of the January deadline, with Ange Postecoglou keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Indeed, it was claimed earlier this week that Spurs hold a ‘genuine interest’ in Wharton, despite links to Conor Gallagher.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on the 19-year-old, who’s enjoying an impressive campaign in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.

But The Athletic’s David Ornstein believes the talented midfielder could end up at Selhurst Park this week, despite interest from Spurs.

Palace could sign Tottenham target Adam Wharton

Speaking on , Ornstein shared an update on Palace’s interest in Wharton after having a bid worth around £18.5 million knocked back by Blackburn.

“One to watch is Adam Wharton,” the journalist said. “Crystal Palace are pursuing and we reported a few days ago that they had made an offer of £18.5m, that it had been rejected by Blackburn Rovers.

“However, their pursuit goes on, they really would like to sign him. I have a feeling this could happen before the window closes.”

Wharton has netted two goals and provided three assists in 29 appearances this term. The Englishman continues to impress for Blackburn and it’s no surprise to see him linked with a move to the Premier League.

It’s no secret that Spurs are keen to bring in a midfielder after snapping up Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin earlier this month.

Gallagher seems to be the preferred option at the moment but there have been suggestions that Spurs could launch a bid to sign Wharton.

Tottenham have benefited massively from targeting talented youngsters in recent years, with moves for Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie proving to be astute pieces of business.

Yet, it would be a surprise to see the north London club better Palace’s £18.5 million offer before Thursday’s deadline.

Spurs aren’t exactly desperate for another option in midfield and they would likely have to offload the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before moving for the youngster.
