David Ornstein reveals what Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri personally wants to do now after Chelsea interest
Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri.
The two London clubs have done a lot of business with each other over the years. The Blues signed Olivier Giroud and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal, while the Gunners have brought in Willian, Kai Havertz and Jorginho in recent years.
Arsenal supporters aren’t big fans of signing more players from Chelsea, but what they would hate even more is to see one of their players move to Stamford Bridge.
Nwaneri has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester City in recent days.
Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri’s personal stance on his future amid Chelsea links
Ethan Nwaneri’s future at Arsenal is up in the air.
The teenager is arguably the best 18-year-old in the Premier League at the moment. He was brilliant in his breakthrough season at Arsenal last term, and his future is really bright.
However, the Hale End star has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates, and as TBR Football revealed before anyone else, talks between Nwaneri and Arsenal over a new deal aren’t going to plan.
That has led to rumours that the youngster could leave the club next year, and teams like Chelsea are ready to pounce if he becomes available.
That is very worrying, but in what is some good news for Arsenal fans, Nwaneri’s personal stance is to stay — the rest depends on his representatives and the club striking a deal.
David Ornstein said on The Athletic Podcast: “There’s a similar situation, of course, with Ethan Nwaneri, an amazing talent, academy product, who we understand wants to stay at Arsenal.
“That doesn’t always mean it’s a foregone conclusion because you’ve got to get the deal right, his terms expire next summer. In one sense, they have got a long time, because when he was moving from scholarship to pro, I don’t think he signed until the very end, just before he was about to become a free agent, and he could’ve had his pick of clubs, but he wanted to stay. Eventually, they got the deal right.”
Ornstein further added: “With Nwaneri, there’s interest building in him, no surprise, you’d be more surprised if there wasn’t.
“It’s clear that there’s interest on the continent from Germany. Interest from Chelsea. There will be tons of suitors for him if he is to become available. But, right now, the focus is on the talks.
“Are they going to reach an agreement? Arsenal want to. He will be keen to stay!”
There is still a chance that Nwaneri will leave if an agreement cannot be reached with Arsenal, but fans should not panic just yet.
Should Ethan Nwaneri leave Arsenal for Chelsea?
Nwaneri has found himself in an unfortunate situation at Arsenal.
The teenager has featured as a number 10 and on the right wing under Mikel Arteta, and he is behind the club’s two best players in those roles — Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.
That is why he will not start every game, but we think Nwaneri should still commit his future to Arsenal, as he will get opportunities over the course of the season.
Nwaneri has played 39 games for Arsenal in all competitions, which is a lot considering that he only turned 18 in March.
Moving to Chelsea could well be appealing due to the finances that will be on offer, but Arsenal have the more stable project at the moment, and staying at the Emirates, where the style of football suits him, makes a lot more sense.
