‘A huge decision’: David Ornstein provides very latest update on Aubameyang’s Arsenal situation

David Ornstein has been on Sky Sports this morning providing the very latest update when it comes to Arsenal striker and misfit, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The striker is firmly out of the picture at Arsenal after falling foul of Mikel Arteta’s rules and being stripped of the captaincy in recent months. Since then, he’s not even come back into the first-team picture and he is widely expected to move on somewhere before the end of January.

Interest has come in the form of Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, while others are also said to be keen. And The Athletic’s David Ornstein has been providing the very latest on Aubameyang’s situation.

“Al-Hilal have offered to take him on loan and cover his salary. There’s also interest from PSG, among others in Europe that might be more appealing to him at 32-years-old. But I doubt if it’s to do with wages, that he isn’t going to contribute to that as it wasn’t his decision not to pick him,” Ornstein .

“There seems to be a lack of clarity on what’s going to happen. If the window shuts and he’s still there, then Mikel Arteta faces a huge decision. Can they rebuild those bridges? I’m not sure they can.”

TBR’s View: Aubameyang Needs To Leave Arsenal

This is a mess for Arsenal. If they don’t find someone to take Aubameyang, they’re left with a player on huge money contributing nothing to the cause.

As Ornstein says, Arteta will then be left with a massive decision to make. But the reality is that Auba isn’t going to be put back in this team. It is doing well without him, so Arteta won’t want to rock the boat at all.

Hopefully, someone puts up the money for Aubameyang. Otherwise, Arsenal are left with a Mesut Ozil 2.0 situtation on their hands.
