David Ornstein claims rival side unlikely to challenge Arsenal for £43m target due to finances
David Ornstein has claimed that Chelsea are not in a position to rival Arsenal for the signing of Nico Williams.
The Athletic’s Football Correspondent made the comments when hosting a Q&A (question and answer) session.
So, what did David Ornstein say about Arsenal and Chelsea target Nico Williams? Let’s take a look…
Chelsea unlikely to rival Arsenal for Nico Williams
Well – according to the – Arsenal are keen to sign the Spain international, who Fabrizio Romano claims has a release clause worth £43m written into his contract with Athletic Bilbao.
That contract actually sees Williams earn .
It means whoever intends on signing the Spaniard this summer will have to shell out a fairly large financial package, something Chelsea are seemingly unable to do – due to past spending under Todd Boehly.

Ornstein : “He’s a player Chelsea and a number of other Premier League clubs like and have been looking at for a while. I think the size of his salary could be problematic and therefore I would class Williams to Chelsea as unlikely at the moment, but let’s see.
“January showed that the period of Premier League clubs paying massive transfer fees and salaries may well be slowing down (largely because of PSR – Profit and Sustainability Rules).
“Chelsea, like many clubs, are tight on PSR and therefore will need to cut their cloth accordingly. It means that when we hear talk of someone like (Victor) Osimhen being signed this summer, I think that is very unlikely – owing to the transfer fee and salary.”
Double boost for Arsenal
As you can see, Ornstein also mentions Napoli No.9 Osimhen – another player Arsenal have been linked with.

It was who claimed that Arsenal have made an enquiry about the Nigeria international.
While it remains to be seen what happens with recruitment at Arsenal this summer, it should please fans to know that Chelsea are unlikely to be in a position to ruin any of Edu’s transfer plans.
