The winger has arguably been the man of the moment at West Ham in recent weeks, but David Moyes believes his goal tally should be higher for the season.

Speaking to after the victory against Norwich Moyes said: “I didn’t think he played so well in the first half tonight.

‘The goalkeeper makes a save from him in the first minute when maybe he could have scored, and he could have finished the game a bit earlier for us.

‘He’s probably been a little bit behind with his goals this season – his assists have been good, but if we can get him in the goals in the second half of the season that will be really important for us.

‘But look, he’s doing great and the goals will give him great confidence.”

Bowen’s progress since joining West Ham

Bowen has been a key player under Moyes since signing from Championship side Hull in January 2020. He scored on his home debut in a 3-1 win over Southampton. Which turned out to be the last time a ball was kicked at the London Stadium for more than three months due to COVID-19.

Bowen notched four assists in seven games to secure another season of Premier League football after project restart. The 25-year-old then picked up eight goals and six assists in all competitions in his first full season at the club as the Hammers secured Europa League football.

And he has continued to make progress in the 21/22 season. Picking up eight goals and ten assists in all comps so far, a number of goal involvements bettered by no other English player in the Premier League. Which is why many are calling for a first England call-up for the winger.
