David Moyes delivers Carlos Alcaraz verdict as he shares whether Everton newcomer could now start v Liverpool

Everton will look to make it four Premier League wins in a row when they host Liverpool in the rescheduled Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

With the original fixture postponed because of adverse weather conditions, Everton and Liverpool will contest the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park this week.

David Moyes‘ charges have turned their Premier League form around with three wins from their last three top-flight fixtures, though they lost to Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

The fourth-round game at Goodison Park saw Carlos Alcaraz make his debut, coming on for Abdoulaye Doucoure and doing well.

Indeed, Everton fans called for Alcaraz to start against Liverpool in place of Doucoure.

Moyes, speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference, spoke about Alcaraz and whether he could make his first start.

David Moyes coy on whether Everton newcomer Carlos Alcaraz will start against Liverpool

Moyes kept his cards close to his chest when it came to the subject of Alcaraz starting against Liverpool.

The Everton boss admitted that the 22-year-old did enough against Bournemouth to justify a start against the Reds.

However, Moyes didn’t confirm whether he would definitely start Alcaraz, saying the decision will be made on the day of the match.

“He’s done enough by his performance to start the game,” said Moyes. “Whether I do, is another thing.

“I think sometimes when you bring someone in, you don’t know how long it’ll take for someone to settle.

“I have to say, he settled very well in the game.

“He’s got Premier League experience, so he’s not completely new to this.

“The decision will be made tomorrow on whether we start him or not.”

Moyes has confirmed that Vitalii Mykolenko could return for Everton, although Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Dwight McNeil are unavailable through injury.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are also ruled out for the Merseyside derby, but there could be a first start for Alcaraz, who has been described as a ‘stunning’ talent.

As for Liverpool, they will be without Joe Gomez, who is out with a leg issue, while Tyler Morton is still recovering from a shoulder injury.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold could return after missing two games due to injury.
