David Moyes says West Ham have bought a player they hope to turn into a ‘top Premier League’ star

West Ham United manager David Moyes has waxed lyrical about Said Benrahma after his permanent Hammers move was confirmed earlier this week.

The 25-year-old joined West Ham on loan from Championship side Brentford in October, and to date he has made 14 appearances in all competitions.

On Friday morning, the Hammers confirmed that an agreement to make Benrahma’s deal permanent had been exercised.

, meanwhile, reported that West Ham paid £20million for the Algeria international’s signature, plus add-ons.

Moyes admitted the initial plan was for Benrahma to sign in the summer, but West Ham had to hold back due to a “mild medical problem”.

“Obviously we had any time to do it, and it was always going to get done,” he at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game.

“That was never in doubt, we just had to make sure the small medical issue was cleared up and we could move on from there.

“I’ve always liked his goals and assists – he’s given us a couple of assists and we’re waiting for the goals, but what we’ve found at the moment is that he’s becoming a really hard working team player for us, which we really like.

“Because he’s young to the Premier League, there’s a lot more development and a lot more to come from him.

“We always said we didn’t want to rush him, and we don’t want to – there’ll be games when we need to be patient with him and hopefully we end up turning Said into a top Premier League player.”

Benrahma may be yet to get on the scoresheet but he’s by far the most creative player in the team and has been a joy to watch in claret and blue.

His performances have been key to West Ham’s great form this season, and with his loan deal now made permanent, David Moyes was able to snap up Jesse Lingard too.

Things are looking very promising at the London Stadium and hopefully they can keep up their great form in pursuit of a European finish
