David Moyes says he made a massive offer to sign ‘world class’ Tottenham player for Man Utd
David Moyes’ time at Manchester United was nothing short of an absolute disaster. The Scot replaced Alex Ferguson, but within less than a year, he was sacked.
However, things could’ve turned out so differently for Moyes.
Cast your mind back a decade, and you’ll remember that Moyes’ first transfer window didn’t exactly go to plan.
Marouane Fellaini arrived as the Red Devils’ only major signing on deadline day, but, it wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Speaking on , Moyes has now been discussing that first transfer window at United, and he says that he tried very hard to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
According to Moyes, Manchester United made a bigger offer to Bale than Real Madrid, but, unfortunately for the Red Devils, the Welshman’s mind was made up.

David Moyes tried to sign Gareth Bale for Manchester United
Moyes shared how he tried to sign Bale.
“The other part then was I wanted Gareth Bale. Manchester United had great wide players in their history. I thought Gareth Bale, we made bigger offers to Tottenham, we made bigger offers to him and his agent,’ Moyes said.
“We wanted both Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale, but both fell through. Bale had his heart set on Real Madrid and I couldn’t change it.”
David Moyes was let down by Manchester United
Say what you will about Moyes’ time at Manchester United, the reality is that he was let down in the transfer window.
Replacing arguably the greatest manager of all-time is a daunting task, but it’s even more difficult when you’re not backed by your board.
Fellaini was Moyes’ only signing in his first transfer window, and with an ageing squad, revolution was needed.
If Bale and Fabregas had come in, things could’ve worked out so differently for Moyes at Old Trafford, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
Bale did go on to become one of the best in the world and win five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, while United haven’t reached the semi-final of that competition since, so, ultimately, it’s fair to say the ‘’ winger made the right decision.
