David Moyes hails ‘brilliant’ West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal
West Ham boss David Moyes has praised new signing Vladimir Coufal for his club debut before the international break.
The Hammers signed the right-back for £5.4million () and he made his debut in English football during the impressive 3-0 away win against Leicester City in the Premier League.
Coufal slotted straight into his usual full-back position for his new side and enjoyed a dream start, as he was solid defensively in an organised backline and looked a threat going forward as well.
The 28-year-old looks like he’s an old fashioned defender that is going to add some extra grit to the side and he’s comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Moyes has reacted positively to his first West Ham appearance and explained why the club signed him this summer.
“I thought Vladimír was brilliant [against Leicester City]. The biggest thing about him is his experience, his knowledge,”
“That was the reason we thought he would be helpful for us at this time. He also came really highly recommended from Tomas [Soucek], so that helped us make our minds up. I don’t think he disappointed anybody on his debut, that was for sure.”
Coufal isn’t the most eye-catching player on the eye, but his first performance suggests he could be a real favourite with West Ham fans due to his no-nonsense approach and his arrival at least gave everyone a lift during a quiet transfer window.
The Czech Republic international will have to come up against in-form Heung-Min Son next when the Hammers face London rivals Tottenham and it’s going to be a real examination of him as a defender.
