David Martindale admits he was seriously impressed with 25-year-old Celtic player yesterday
Celtic’s win over Livingston was one that was desperately needed for Brendan Rodgers. Especially off the back of two disappointing defeats from Kilmarnock and Hearts.
The Celtic fans were hoping to see a better performance from their key players yesterday and they certainly got that from Luis Palma.
The Honduran was excellent in the 2-0 win. But there was one Celtic player who impressed Livingston’s boss, David Martindale as well yesterday afternoon.
Fresh from praising the physique of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Martindale reserved special praise for Liam Scales after the Celtic defender scored the second goal.
Martindale said [], “See with that delivery, as a centre-back and I’m marking Scales, I’m goal side so the only place that he can beat me to the header, really, is in front of me.
“So it’s a very, very hard one when the delivery’s correct and the movement’s right. Yeah, we can get more contact and we can try and affect it a wee bit more we’ve got more but he physically can’t get his head on it.
“It’s not like he’s got to jump for it and [Liam] Scales has outjumped him. Big Nottsy’s [Michael Nottingham] got to do better.
“But I’ll caveat that with the movement, the delivery and the precision of the header. But two goals in five minutes and I’ll be honest, it’s damage limitation at that point isn’t it.”
Liam Scales was superb in Celtic’s win vs Livingston
The Irish international put in yet another solid performance for Brendan Rodgers yesterday.
rated an impressive 8.4 by , Scales was a rock at the heart of the Celtic defence. But to be fair, it wasn’t really a day for defending.

It was a day for calm heads and possession play and the 25-year-old certainly helped with that. With a passing accuracy of 93%, Scales made 28 of those into Livingston’s final third.
On top of his goal, Scales also created two chances and had another shot on target and one touch in the opposition’s penalty box.
Scales was brilliant supporting the Celtic attack and the fans will hope that continues against Dundee on Boxing Day.
