David Luiz reportedly having Arsenal medical ahead of cut-price move from Chelsea
Chelsea defender David Luiz is having a medical with London rivals Arsenal ahead of a deadline day move,
They that Luiz is edging ever closer to an £8 million move across London to try and solve Arsenal’s central defensive woes and act as a shorter-term solution before William Saliba’s arrival next summer.
This is a switch that has come out of absolutely nowhere – as many of the transfers in Luiz’s career have – and comes at the end of a window where the Gunners have been surprisingly busy.
Luiz, who earned £120,000-a-week at Chelsea last season according to , has his critics and does have a mistake in him, but would be the only player at the Emirates Stadium with a Premier League winner’s medal.
At his best, he is a focused defender, versed in the so-called dark arts of defending as well as adept at bringing the ball out from the back.
But during his time in England, he has shown that he is inconsistent, can throw his toys out of the pram with managers and that’s the worry for Gunners fans.
That said, he’s better than all of Arsenal’s current options at the heart of defence and won’t cost the earth – this one could go either way.
