David Luiz offers thoughts on fellow Arsenal new-boy Gabriel Martinelli

David Luiz’s arrival at Arsenal on transfer deadline day raised eyebrows up and down the country but he could well be the ideal short-term solution at the back.

But another Brazilian also joined the Gunners this summer, who has far more of his career ahead of him, in the shape of Gabriel Martinelli.

Luiz spoke highly of his countryman to : “He is a young player, he’s talented and everyone speaks very well about him, everyone is excited because they know he has the potential to become a fantastic player soon and in the future.

“It will be good to work with him, try to help him and also give him a bit of my experience in football around the world. I hope we both can do big things here.”

TBR’s View – Martinelli’s arrival must have been a major factor in Nketiah’s loan departure

It’s well-established by now that Arsenal have a mouth-watering frontline and that doesn’t provide too many opportunities for young strikers to shine.

Eddie Nketiah looked to have muscled himself to the front of the queue with his performances during 2018/19 and pre-season but has been loaned to Leeds.

But with Danny Welbeck out the door, that means that Martinelli will be expected to deputise when needed and perhaps take up the goalscoring mantle in the Europa League.

There isn’t room for two promising young strikers at the club, and Arsenal have decided that the Brazilian is the man most worth keeping around this term.
