David James says one Arsenal player needs to do ‘a lot more in training’

David James has given his thoughts on the current Arsenal goalkeeping situation.

The England icon reckons Aaron Ramsdale has done enough to make himself first-choice in the Gunners line-up.

James also thinks Bernd Leno needs to do “a lot more in training” if he wants to regain his place in the XI.

Leno was in goal for Arsenal’s first three Premier League games of the season, conceding nine goals.

Ramsdale then got the nod for the games against Norwich and Burnley, which were both clean-sheet wins.

Indeed, the former Sheffield United man hasn’t conceded a single goal for the Gunners.

And with Mikel Arteta starting Leno in the Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon, it suggests he now sees Ramsdale as his pick for the league.

James, speaking on Sky Sports News – via – said: “Aaron Ramsdale has got an opportunity here to take the number one spot.

“Bernd Leno, unfortunately, is going to have to do a lot more in training and in the cup games to force his way back in.

“For me, right now, Ramsdale is the ‘keeper of the gloves’.”

Arsenal are in Premier League action this Sunday, hosting North London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.
