David James raves about Cristiano Ronaldo-esque Liverpool star Alisson
David James has explained to the why Liverpool goalkeeper shows similarities to Cristiano Ronaldo – but does claim the stopper isn’t the best in the world right now.
Alisson is in his third season at Anfield following his £67 million transfer from Roma in July 2018
Last season was a tough one for the Brazilian as he suffered from a few niggling injuries throughout the campaign.
James believes that has knocked him down a peg or two in the quest to become the world’s best goalkeeper.
“When Alisson came in, it was clean sheet after clean sheet and he proved his value. After the restart, he wasn’t at his best but all Liverpool needed to do was win the league and they did that.

“Manuel Neuer, on the other hand, was faultless – in the Champions League final, there were two saves that he made that kept a clean sheet.
“I think that Alisson is better than Neuer over a longer period of time and he will once again be the best – I love everything about him and he seems unflappable.
“He’s never seemed fazed by his mistakes and continues doing what he does very well which is keeping clean sheets.”
Alisson has made 92 appearances for the Reds and kept no fewer than 45 clean sheets during his time at Anfield.
Quality
He has helped Liverpool to success in the Champions League and Premier League during his time at the club and is up there among the best there is.
James also noted that he was fortunate to meet him last year and believes he has similarities to Cristiano Ronaldo.
: “I met him at Melwood and Michael Edwards introduced him to me – he’s so young!
“The idea of the peak being attributed to age is a misnomer because you could peak at 15 – there’s nothing to say you are going to be better at 16 or 26.
“In the end it’s about biology and whether you are capable of going further and faster and higher but with Alisson, you are looking at a keeper who everything he does is so good.

“He might be a bit Cristiano Ronaldo-esque in the sense that he doesn’t have to do something exceptional to still be at the highest level.”
Liverpool have started the season in perfect fashion and are starting to get back into their full stride.
They defeated Leeds 4-3, Chelsea 2-0 and beat Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield on Monday night.
After winning the title last season, the Reds once again look like the team to beat during the 2020/21 campaign.
Alisson is paid at Liverpool and once again looks like being integral to the team’s fortunes.
